The special election might be in Georgia, but it’s getting a lot of attention in California.

Hollywood stars are rallying behind Jon Ossoff, the Democratic candidate in a contentious race seen a bellwether for the 2018 midterms, as voters cast their ballots Tuesday.

Variety reports Rosie O’Donnell, Jane Fonda, Jessica Lange, Sean Daniel, Connie Britton, Sam Waterston and Kyra Sedgwick have all donated to Ossoff’s campaign. Meanwhile, Alyssa Milano is doing door-knocks for Ossoff and has even offered to drive voters to election centers.

But that may cast Ossoff as a villain in a region where Hollywood celebrities are often distrusted.

Republican candidate Karen Handel and her supporters have painted her opponent, a former documentary filmmaker, as a product of the liberal elite. At the height of the Kathy Griffin scandal, a GOP Super PAC ran an ad suggesting a link between the controversial comedian and Ossoff.

In April, Ossoff narrowly missed the majority he needed to win outright. Since then both candidates have reportedly spent $50 million on the runoff—making it the most expensive congressional race in history.

The seat was vacated by Tom Price when President Trump selected him for Health and Human Services Secretary. Ever since then, Democrats are focused on an upsetting the special congressional election in the suburban Atlanta district, which historically leans Republican.
