Dozens of photos have been released to mark the jury announcement for the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards.

The award is in its eleventh year. The photographs entered range from a bird’s eye view of skyscrapers in Hong Kong to naturally dyed water in caves in Mexico, The Sun reports. All the entries “offer a unique look at the world we live in,” writes The Sun, and show everything from everyday objects, like car parks and swimming pools, to things that few get to see, like the taming of wild horses in Turkey.

The judging panel was also announced. It includes British Vogue picture editor Mike Trow and the Photographer’s Gallery Founder Sue Davies OBE, The Sun reports.

Trow said that contestants should “pick their stories carefully” and make sure to do research on the area and other people’s work before you shoot it.

“Be ruthless in your editing and quality control, and be consistent in the presentation of images. And always get the opinion of others – how they see things is not necessarily how you see it and will help give objectivity to the sense of whether your pictures work or not,” he said, according to The Sun.

Prizes for the competition include about $25,000 for the overall Photographer of the Year, as well as the latest Sony digital imaging equipment, The Sun reports. The winner is also included in the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition and the 2017 awards book.

The competition is free to enter, a press release from the World Photography Organization states. Interested in participating in 2018? The deadline for the student focus is Dec. 4, the open, youth and national award competition deadline is Jan. 4 and the professional competition is Jan. 11.
