June 10, 2016 10:30 am

It’s a rare treat for film lovers to experience, firsthand, a director’s relationship with his actors or see his vision of a scene before it hits the cutting room floor. Gus Van Sant: Icons is a new book that provides unfettered access from the man responsible for films such as Good Will Hunting, Milk, My Own Private Idaho, and Drugstore Cowboy. Readers get an unfiltered account of a number of famous films through Van Sant’s own photographs taken on set and a previously unpublished interview from 2015. The book also offers anecdotes and in-depth appraisals of the production processes for each of Van Sant’s films. Icons goes on sale June 28; pre-order a copy here. In advance of the book’s release, take a look at some of Van Sant’s photos below.
