If you’ve been keeping tabs on “Survivor: White House,” you had a new name to cross off the list this afternoon, when it was announced that President Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon had lost his job.

Mere hours after the news broke, the rumors are swirling that Bannon will be returning to Breitbart News, where he had been executive chair before taking the position in Trump’s White House. (His former employer reporting that Bannon had submitted his resignation as early as Aug. 7.)

As Yahoo reported, the Drudge Report seemed to “break” the news of Bannon’s firing first—followed by a fully reported story by The New York Times—adding an intriguing tidbit about his possible return to Breitbart. Also included in that current speculation is Gabriel Sherman of Vanity Fair/MSNBC, who tweeted:

Bannon’s firing was all but expected, given the backlash he received from a series of on-the-record interviews completed over the past week (including this controversial one from The American Prospect), where he strongly criticized the Trump administration.
