On the first day of his sexual assault trial, Bill Cosby brought a co-star along—actress Keshia Knight Pulliam.

Having his television daughter from Cosby’s hit ’80s sitcom, The Cosby Show, by his side was a master stroke for his defense team. But it also angered a number of Pulliam’s fans.

“Whatever the man on [the] show she spent much of her childhood may or may not have done, I’d hoped, naively, that we might be able to leave Cliff Huxtable out of it,” wrote Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Ellen Gray.

No matter what the outcome of the trial, Cosby’s image as “America’s Dad” will forever be tarnished for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home 13 years ago.

She is one of 60 women that have come forward to accuse Cosby of having raped or physically assaulted them over a five decade span.

“Ultimately, it’s easy to support someone and to be in their corner when things are great. When things are good,” Pulliam told reporters outside the courthouse, according to E! News. “But … true family, friendship, integrity is how people show up and support when things aren’t looking so great, when they aren’t shining.”
