President Trump was joined by First Lady Melania and White House staffers on the South Lawn Monday morning in solemn observance of the 9/11 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans, according to NBC News. He then went on to deliver prepared remarks at the Pentagon, in which he spoke about the strength of the United States.

“Our values will endure. Our people will thrive,” Trump said. “Our nation will prevail and the memory of our loved ones will never, ever die.”

Joined by Defense Secretary James Mattis and Join Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford, Trump also delivered a message to America’s enemies.

“The terrorists who attacked us thought they could incite fear and weaken our spirit but America cannot be intimidated,” Trump said. “And those who try will soon join the long list of vanquished enemies who dared to test our mettle.”

Vice President Pence reportedly observed the anniversary in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where United Airlines flight 93 crashed.
