Drone Captures Close-Ups of a Volcano Erupting in Real Time

Viral Video By

This is the literal definition of a “hot shot.” Scientists and engineers from the University of Cambridge and Bristol sent a drone over a pair of active volcanoes in Guatemala—Volcán de Fuego and Volcán de Pacaya—to measure heat, humidity, and thermal data, per the university.

Of course, the scientists also rolled tape during actual, real-time eruptions, too, which Cambridge says is one of the first times the feat has been accomplished.

The bespoke fixed-wing unmanned drones were successfully flow from up to five miles away and at a height of over 9,800 feet.
