Hummingbirds flap their wings at about 80 beats per second. So the human eye has zero chance of catching much more than the blur that they are when they touch down to imbibe at a bird feeder.
But videographer Jim Ciarico pulled off some movie magic by using a “macro lens”—or in technical terms, a modified 37 mm 2x zoom lens—to slow hummingbirds down to the point where we can all enjoy them stopping, sitting, and guzzling at the feeder … in total awe, of course.
