Realistic-looking money touted in movies and music videos is almost always fake—and if the fake money appears too real, it’s likely illegal, and won’t just shut down a production, it carries a heavy fine and can even send users to jail.
There are a select few who are allowed to make prop cash, and Rich “RJ” Rappaport is one of them. He first launched RJR Props nine years ago as a full-service prop shop, and has worked alongside federal authorities (including the U.S. Secret Service) to ensure that his fakes never make it into mainstream circulation. His prop money has been featured in over 175 films and shows, ranging from Breaking Bad and Fargo to music videos for 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar music videos.
