Why oh why didn’t the studio executives take the blue pill.
Warner Bros. is developing a reboot of the 1999 sci-fi classic, The Matrix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sources told the industry trade that Michael B. Jordan was being eyed for the lead role, previously played by Keanu Reeves.
The artist formerly known as Neo, however, did recently express interest in returning to the franchise that made him an action star.
“They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not?” Reeves told Yahoo Movies.
It’s also not yet clear if the Wachowski siblings, the architects of the original mind-building trilogy, would be involved in the new version, though fans would likely be turned off by any future version that didn’t carry their blessing. Producer Joel Silver would not likely return after selling rights to the property to Warner Brothers for $30 million five years ago.
