Star Wars: The Last Jedi is all set to save American box-offices, with its projected $200 million-plus domestic debut when it hits theaters Dec. 15, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Only a few movies have ever accomplished this feat, but what else what you expect from a fandom that has lasted through generations?
In December 2015, Force Awakens revived the iconic sci-fi franchise after a long big screen absence. The movie shattered box-office records with a $248 million opening weekend in North America, writes THR. In December 2016, Rouge One: A Star Wars Story made $55.1 million.
Besides Force Awakens, the only other films to make $200 million or more are Jurassic World, which made $208.8 million, and The Avengers, which brought in $207.4 million.
Disney seems to be expecting The Last Jedi to surpass Beauty and the Beast, which holds the top opening on the year to date with $174.8 million, according to THR.
The Last Jedi stars Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o. It was directed by Rian Johnson.
