Metallica Guitarist Kirk Hammet’s Collection of Horror Movie Posters

His exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, opens August 12.

Kirk Hammett is more than a hard rocker. He’s a hardcore horror movie fan.

The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, will present It’s Alive! Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Art from private collection of Metallica’s guitarist.

Collection , an exhibition of graphic art that has seeped into the public imagination and reflected society’s deepest fears and anxieties for nearly a century.

Hammett’s horror movie poster collection inspires him: “The stuff of horror has a mojo that always works on me. I start producing ideas. They just flow like liquid.”

The exhibit runs August 12 through November 26  and includes 135 works from 20th-century cinema. Here are some of our favorites:
