After months of speculation, Josh Brolin has landed the plum role of Cable in Deadpool 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rumors have swirled for months that other actors, including Michael Shannon, Stranger Things star David Harbour, Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe, were considered for the plum role of a mutant warrior from the future for the sequel to last year’s hit.

That will team Brolin with Ryan Reynold, who will squeeze into the titualr hero’s spandex suit.

What makes Brolin’s casting that much more surprising is that the actor is already a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the evil Thanos, set to menace our planet in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies.

But while both Cable and Thanos co-exist in the Marvel comics, the former is licensed for the big screen by 20th Century Fox as part of its X-Men deal with Marvel.

THR reports that Brolin has nabbed a four-movie deal as Deadpool’s time-traveling best friend. Atlanta breakout Zazie Beetz has already been cast as the super-powered mercenary named Domino.

Deadpool 2 is due out in early 2018.
