Unique Home Stays has swung open the doors of what it’s calling “The Found,” a Game of Thrones–style tower, originally built during the 1800s (i.e. the Napoleonic Wars) to defend England. But you won’t be sleeping on tiger-skin beds or feasting on wild boar: The English Heritage site has been completely gutted, modernized, and turned into a luxury getaway.
Located in Suffolk, England, the small defensive tower (otherwise known as a “Martello”) has every creature comfort of a normal luxe accommodation, but just happens to be built of nearly a million gray stone bricks. A spiral staircase leads up to a top balcony, where you can either pretend to defend Great Britain from the bloody hordes or catch a 360-degree view of the stunning Suffolk coastline. Speaking of which, the property is within walking distance of a beach, jogging path, and birdwatching opportunities.
Sleeping up to six guests, The Found includes three double bedrooms, a fire pit on the roof terrace, a TV, pair of audio systems, an oven, a refrigerator, and Nespresso machine. Unfortunately, no children under the age of eight are allowed. The company renting the spot does also note that there is free WiFi access available, but it’s spotty due to the thickness of the walls.
