Whether it’s quick snaps of a pregnant Kate or a portrait of young Prince George, Getty photographer Chris Jackson is behind many of royal shots seen around the world — including the first images of engaged couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that emerged yesterday.

“Many were on the edge of their seats waiting for some kind of official announcement from the Palace over the last couple of weeks. There was much speculation it would be last week, but when the tweet and email dropped at 10 a.m. today I think many were caught by surprise!” Jackson told Town and Country by email.

“It’s a great feeling to have a ‘feelgood’ story like this, and the promise of a royal baby AND a wedding in 2018 certainly excites a royal photographer such as myself!” he said. Jackson added that the happy couple’s excitement was palpable, and they seemed “very much in love,” but he does have a favorite photo — the first in our gallery.
