Archeologists from DePaul University are using drones to document the scale of looting at Fifa on Jordan’s Dead Sea Plain. Satellite images have been used to monitor the degradation of archeological sites for years, but unmanned aerial vehicles present experts with a much more immediate solution for policing at-risk sites. In addition to being less expensive, drones allow archeologists to map the landscape, identify buried features, and record the excavation process. To read more about DePaul’s program, click here.
