How the Human Population Has Exploded Over Thousands of Years

As recently as 100,000 years ago, there were probably under a million people in the entire world. Today there are over 7.3 billion and counting. Considering the Earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old, it’s worth asking (to paraphrase the Talking Heads): How did we get here?

Thankfully, the American Museum of Natural History has some answers. Watch the video below and observe the human population growing first slowly and then with almost unnerving speed, as developments like the growth of farming radically alter civilization.
