For fans of the hit AMC series Mad Men, this is a case of fantasy complementing reality like, say, ketchup with french fries.
In the 2013 episode entitled “To Have and to Hold,” fictional adman Don Draper (of firm Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce), proposed to the Heinz execs a short, pithy tagline for their ketchup product: “Pass the Heinz.”
They hated it. But their real life counterparts are apparently much more receptive.
According to Adweek, the actual Heinz company has green-lighted Draper’s idea. “[Heinz] … will run [ads] almost exactly as Draper intended, beginning today [March 13], in print and out-of-home executions in New York City,” the trade publication reports.
Fifty years after the campaign was supposedly nixed on the period drama, ads will run on a billboard in New York City, as well as in the New York Post and Variety.
