Nike is running at full speed into the diversity debate with a new “Pro Hijab” line for female Muslim athletes.

The sporting giant cited Saudi Arabian athlete Sarah Attar, who competed in the 2012 London Olympics, as being an inspiration, according to Al Arabiya.

The announcement comes after Nike’s “What Would They Say About You?” ad spot went viral in February (see below).

In a statement quoted in Al Arabiya‘s story, the company said,

“The Nike Pro Hijab may have been more than a year in the making, but its impetus can be traced much further back, to an ongoing cultural shift that has seen more women than ever embracing sport.”

One of the first two women to represent the country in the Olympics, Attar wore a hijab during the women’s 800-meter qualifiers.
