The Greek island of Skopelos was the filming location for the original Mamma Mia. For Mamma Mia 2, the filmmakers turned to the island of Vis, located off the coast of Croatia. The island was a Yugoslav military base until 1989, so it remained isolated and sparsely populated until fairly recently.

Vis has become a tourist destination yet it remains fairly secluded.

To get there, you can either board the two-and-a-half hour ferry from the mainland or you can fly in via helicopter like a true Mamma Mia film star. The 35-square-mile island has 17th-century Venetian architecture, azure rocky beaches and gorgeous views.

Only about 3,600 people live on the island, accoridng to Smithsonian Magazine, but there is plenty to do and lots of 16th century hotels to stay in, like the Villa Serena, where Colin Firth was rumored to stay.
