A huge forest fire just outside of Yosemite National Park in California is shrouding the popular outdoor destination in smoke, according to Mashable. The danger it poses isn’t just cosmetic.
The U.S. Forest Service has designated Yosemite air quality “unhealthy,” meaning everyone should reduce their time outdoors — especially people who are sensitive to air pollution.
This fire season is a busy one, Mashable reports, and screengrabs from park webcams show the reality of being outside: Iconic landmarks are difficult to make out and, although the park is technically open, breathing in the air for prolonged periods of time has been “repeatedly tied to heart and lung diseases.”
If you aren’t already in the area, maybe consider a different locale for your next family outing.
