Why Is CBD Suddenly So Popular?

Cannabidoil is being touted as a cure-all.

It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment when CBD, or the fashionable cannabis derivative, went from being an alternative for stoners to a mainstream cure-all.

Maybe it was after Mandy Moore mentioned that she was experimenting with CBD oil to relieve pain from wearing high heels, or maybe it was actually when Willie Nelson introduced a line of CBD-infused coffee beans.

But the real question, asked by The New York Times, is if CBD is in fact a new miracle elixir or just the modern day equivalent of snake oil?

Proponents claim it treats ailments including inflammation, pain, acne, anxiety, insomnia, depression, post-traumatic stress and even cancer. And maybe, its just a cure-all for our anxious times. The Times writes that it is easy to wonder if this natural, non-psychotropic and widely available cousin of marijuana represents a cure for the 21st century itself.

“Right now, CBD is the chemical equivalent to Bitcoin in 2016,” said Jason DeLand, a New York advertising executive and a board member of Dosist, a cannabis company in Santa Monica, Calif., that makes disposable vape pens with CBD, according to The Times. “It’s hot, everywhere and yet almost nobody understands it.”
