According to Variety, the FCC received complaints from viewers over NBC and CNN’s broadcasting of the word “shithole,” in reference to President Trump’s controversial remarks about Haiti, El Salvador, and African countries in an immigration meeting Thursday. NBC’s Lester Holt said the word in his coverage after giving a language warning, and CNN ran it on its chyron. The FCC did not clarify how many complaints it received. The agency reviews complaints based on context, and given the news-worthiness of the president’s comments, there’s no evidence yet to believe NBC or CNN will be fined.
