Tom Hardy Says He Based His “Venom” Character on Conor McGregor

Eddie Brock needed to be pinned on someone who was very "handy physically."

Tom Hardy has previously said that he had an odd mix of personalities in mind when he was constructing both Eddie Brock and Brock’s alien alter ego in his film Venom. According to Maxim, those personalities included Woody Allen, Redman, and Conor McGregor.

In a new interview with Esquire’s UK branch, Hardy elaborated on using McGregor as inspiration. And surprisingly, the alien alter-ego character is not based on McGregor, but instead, the human side of Hardy’s character is. He said that Venom was not based on him, but that there were more aspects of Eddie Brock that needed to be “pinned on somebody’s who’s incredibly handy physically.”

“They want somebody who can have a scrap. Conor obviously wants to have a scrap with everybody, so that’s useful,” he said, according to Maxim.
