Steve Bannon is stepping down from his post as executive chairman of Breitbart News, reports The New York Times. His departure was forced by his onetime financial patron, Rebekah Mercer. Bannon was unable to stop the furor over the remarks attributed to him in Fire and Fury, a new book by Michael Wolff about the first year of Trump’s White House. In the remarks, he questioned Trump’s mental fitness and disparaged his elder son, Donald Trump Jr. Larry Solov, the company’s chief executive, said that Bannon and Breitbart will work together on a “smooth transition.” According to The Times, Bannon said that he was “proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform.”
