Tennis legend Serena Williams has made Forbes’ coveted “Most Powerful Women List” for the first time, Marie Claire observed on Thursday. Ranking #79, flanked by Indonesia’s Minister of Finance and tech titan Meg Whitman, Williams is praised for her 23 Grand Slam wins and $18.1 million in earnings last year.
It also observes recent challenges Williams has faced, including complications with the birth of her daughter, as well as the media frenzy surrounding the altercation she had with a ref at the U.S. Open.
Williams’ spot on the Forbes list comes after GQ named her “Woman” of the Year — generating controversy because of the magazine’s use of question marks.
Williams is joined on Most Powerful Women by Ivanka Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Melinda Gates and Taylor Swift, among others.
