Late night host Samantha Bee has faced harsh criticism after using a vulgar expletive to describe Ivanka Trump during her show on Wednesday. She has since apologized. Bee dedicated nearly seven minutes of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee to the issue of migrant children before she brought up Trump. An image of Trump holding her child that she posted on social media earlier this week appeared on the screen in the background of the show as Bee started talking about the president’s daughter and adviser. Bee said that Trump posting that photo showed she was “oblivious” and added, “Let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices.” She then used an obscenity to describe Trump, modifying it with the word “feckless,” according to The New York Times.

Commentators on the left and right debated the slur and there were murmurs of an advertising boycott. Bee issued an apology, saying, “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”

The Times writes that Bee’s remarks seemed to be scripted. The audience gasped and then broke into cheers. TBS removed the video from its site on Thursday afternoon. These comments come two days after ABC canceled Roseanne after Roseanne Barr posted a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama.
