After an exposé by the liberal website Think Progress last month revealed sexual misconduct allegations against Shambhala Buddhist author Lodro Rinzler, Penguin imprint TarcherPerigree has severed its ties with him and will no longer be publishing his upcoming book, How to Be Decent. The book, scheduled for release in the fall of 2018, was to be Rinzler’s seventh on meditation and mindfulness. Amazon currently lists the title as “currently unavailable” and says it does not know when or if it will be back in stock.
The charges against Rinzler arose earlier this summer, and allege that Rinzler forced a woman into having sex with him during the promotional tour for his 2013 book, Walk Like Buddha. The sexual assault claim against Rinzler followed allegations leveled by several other women against Shambhala International’s leader, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, who has since apologized and taken a leave of absence from his position. Rinpoche was a noted mentor of Rinzler’s in the organization.
