The world’s largest porn site is joining the cryptocurrency game. Pornhub announced Tuesday that it is partnering with the currency Verge as a new payment option for the site’s premium services, Esquire reports.
For the average porn viewer, the move won’t have much impact. But it does add another layer of anonymity, especially at a time where data and privacy are a chief concern.
Pornhub cited Verge’s heightened focus on protecting the anonymity of its users as a key reason it was selected over other forms of cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin or Ethereum. But for Verge, working with Pornhub could lead to a significant boon. Porn has been at the forefront of technological innovations, like online credit card payments, Blu-Ray over HD-DVD and virtual reality. As of April 2018, Pornhub was the 24th most visited site in the world.
