Parkland School Principal Included in Investigation into Last Year's Shooting

The investigation into last year’s shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is widening its scope to include the school’s principal.

Ty Thompson, who wasn’t at the Parkland, Florida school on February 14, 2018 when a gunman killed 17 people, is now being looked at by Broward County police, the school district’s spokeswoman told CNN.

There have been no accusations made against Thompson, but the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission has decided to widen its investigating to include the staff in the wake of the shooting.

Thompson will remain at the school “to focus on recovery efforts and to provide oversight on the construction of the new replacement building,” while the investigation is underway, Broward County Public Schools said in a statement.

Teachers at the high school are not supportive of the investigation’s look at Thompson, sources who attended a meeting about the new detail told CNN.

“They weren’t really so clear on what he was being investigated for specifically,” one source said. “The faculty are definitely disappointed overall, but it wasn’t so shocking.”

History teacher Greg Pittman described the meeting as “ugly” and said several teachers walked out.
