Monica Lewinsky left the stage at a conference in Israel after an interviewer asked her an “off-limits” question about former President Bill Clinton, reports USA Today. Lewinsky tweeted a statement early Tuesday, following the incident at the Channel 2 news conference in Jerusalem on Monday night.

According to USA Today, Israeli news anchor Yonit Levi asked Lewinsky if she still expected a personal apology from Clinton 20 years after the fallout from the scandal of their affair. Lewinsky responded, “I’m so sorry. I’m not gong to be able to do this,” before putting down the microphone and walking off stage. Before the scheduled 15-minute interview with Levi, Lewinsky had discussed the “perils and positives of the Internet.”

In her statement, Lewinsky said, “There were clear parameters about what we would be discussing and what we would not,” and also that Levi had been told the first question was off-limits when they met the day before.

“When she asked me it on stage, with blatant disregard for our agreement, it became clear to me I had been misled. I left because it is more important than ever for women to stand up for themselves and not allow others to control their narrative,” Lewinsky said in her statement. She also apologized to the audience.
