Missy Elliott Becomes First Female Rapper In Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Over the weekend Missy Elliott was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, making history as she is the first female rapper to be given the honor.

Elliott joins fellow rappers Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri as the only ones from the genre to reach the Hall to date.

The superstar rapper is the scribe behind major hits for singers like late greats Whitney Houston and Aaliyah as was as Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, and Mariah Carey.

“I want to CONGRATULATE all the AMAZING songwriters who have been inducted into the 2019 ‘Song Writers Hall of Fame,’” Elliott tweeted. “I am so humbly grateful to now be inducted.” she added.

The 50th annual Induction & Awards Gala will be held in New York City this summer.
