A producer has kept footage of a nude scene between Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable locked in a cabinet since 1999, Deadline is reporting, and it’s just been discovered by an author doing research for an upcoming book.
Shot for the John Huston’s 1961 film The Misfits, the clip is believed to have been the first time an American actress in a major production went nude on-screen — if it had made it into the final version. But it ended up on the cutting room floor — and images of Monroe dropping a bed-sheet to the floor to expose her body went unseen for decades.
Additionally, The Misfits was Monroe’s last film shot before the actress’s death. Written by her then-husband, Arthur Miller, the movie is about three cowboys trying to get the attention of one beautiful woman. Deadline reports it’s unclear what exactly will be done with the unseen footage.
