Most hydrocarbon-based ski waxes are messy to apply and clean up — even just once or twice a year — but DPS is now offering a new, liquid version.

The permanent treatment, called Phantom, forms a chemical bond with the ski that supposedly won’t wear off after multiple runs down the slopes, Wired reported. The chemical substance absorbs into the plastic base of skis and snowboards all the way through to the wood or graphite core.

“It’s one and done,” vice president of product development for DPS, Thomas Laakso, told the tech magazine. “It doesn’t scrape or wear off.”

Phantom will be available on Aspen Skiing Company’s high-end rentals on several Colorado mountains, as well as via an add-on bonus to ski purchases made on Evo.com and Backcountry.com.
