The last time Kim Kardashian West was in France for Paris Fashion Week, she was robbed of $5 million in jewelry at gunpoint in her hotel. Returning for the first time to support her husband’s close friend Virgil Abloh at Mens Fashion Week, Kardashian West penned a blog on her website, where Glamour reports the star called the trip “emotional.”

“For me, it was the perfect time to come back to a place where I fell in love, but also a place where I suffered great trauma,” Kardashian West wrote.

“Emotionally, I feel calm. I’ve truly put the experience behind me, and have learned and grown from it,” she continued. “Because of this, mentally coming back to Paris wasn’t difficult for me. It feels refreshing to face my fears and overcome them. For me, there’s no point in staying in a f—ed-up state of mind. ‘Feel it, go through it and move on’ has always been how I try to live my life. I would never suggest to anyone how to grieve, I can simply say what has worked for me.”

Glamour reports Kardashian West was only in country for 12 hours, and had her husband and beefed up security with her. She’s also developed a clear stance on gun control since the ordeal, writing on her site in 2017:

“I’m not against guns and I’m not against people owning guns. After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security. All of my security team is armed, but they also support stricter gun control laws and believe that we should restrict access to firearms for people with mental illness, anyone previously convicted of a misdemeanor, those who have been subject to a temporary restraining order and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.”
