Comedian Kevin Hart may not be out as the 2019 Oscars host after all, ABC News is reporting. Hart said he’s rethinking his decision to step aside as host after a “raw/honest” interview with comedian Ellen DeGeneres, in which he addressed homophobic jokes he made in the past that resurfaced after he accepted the job with the Academy. Telling Hart she called the Academy herself, DeGeneres encouraged Hart to focus on what matters — his multiple apologies and his growth — rather than critical voices online.

“They’re gonna win if you don’t host the Oscars,” DeGeneres said, referencing critical social media users. ”You can’t let them destroy you and they can’t destroy you because you have too much talent.

“That’s why they [The Academy] haven’t found another host,” she said. “I think they were secretly hoping that you would come back.”
