Jess Phoenix wants to be the first in a wave of scientists elected to public office. The geologist is running for Congress in CA-25, a district in Northern Los Angeles County and Ventura County, and hopes to bring a serious approach to climate change to the House. Phoenix’s campaign ads compare her political philosophy to that of Star Trek, and feature Star Trek actors Tim Russ, Robert Picardo, and John Billingsley endorsing her campaign, according to Wired. The non-profit 314 Action, which organizes campaigns for scientifically-minded candidates, is supporting Phoenix’s campaign.
