Jaquet Droz’s New Watches Have Dials Made From Meteorites, Fossils

The unique timepieces use minerals that are billions of years old.

Jaquet Droz has decided to make an out-of-this-world watch by creating dials made from meteorite minerals that have traveled thousands of lightyears. Meteorites are fragment of spacer rock that make it through Earth’s atmosphere intact. These are very rare and sought after materials, and gather pieces that were large enough to work with was no easy task. The fragments for Droz’s watches go through exclusive cutting techniques to be transformed into the finely shaped and finished dials. Only three limited series ’88’ pieces will be issued of the Grand Seconde Off-Centered Meteorite watches, reports Luxury Launches: a 39 mm model, a 39 mm model set with diamonds, and a 43 mm model.

Droz’s other new rarefied watch design uses stromatolite, a fossilized sedimentary rock from Earth that dates back about 3.5 billion years. This watch collection is also comprised of three, exclusive pieces: a 39 mm model, a 39 mm model set with diamonds, and a 43 mm model, in a red gold case. All three have alligator leather straps and prices range between $23,800 and $29,700.
