It’s not quite breaking news: The Hollywood Reporter followed Anderson Cooper around New York for three days, and the resulting profile is as busy as you would imagine.

Cooper reportedly spends the majority of waking hours working on at least one of his shows, from Anderson Cooper 360 to 60 Minutes to Full Circle to AC²: Deep Talk and Shallow Tales. He spends so much time in his role as CNN’s lead newsman that he restricts most of his field reporting to the weekends.

The 51-year-old TV journalist tries to eliminate most choices from his daily routine, leading him to his on-air wardrobe of extremely similar Ralph Lauren suits and the 2-3 coffee-flavored bottles of Soylent he uses in place of proper meals. To put Cooper’s hectic lifestyle into context, the summer brought him to Singapore, Helsinki, Brazil, Seoul, and cities across the United States.

Cooper lives in a West Village apartment that used to be a firehouse, which he bought for $4.3 million. Not that he spends much time in it. “I’d rather be working than doing anything else,” he told THR.  It’s like riding the breaking wave of history.”
