Power couple George and Amal Clooney made an announcement Wednesday that they and the Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ) donated $100,000 to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights to “help protect and promote the best interests of immigrant children in the United States who have been separated from their families,” according to a press release.

Their joint statement reads:: “At some point in the future our children will ask us: is it true, did our country really take babies from their parents and put them in detention centers? And when we answer yes, they’ll ask us what we did about it. What we said. Where we stood. We can’t change this Administration’s policy but we can help defend the victims of it. Today, the Clooney Foundation for Justice will donate $100,000 to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.”

Since May, 2,342 children have been separated from their parents, NPR reports, as part of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ “zero-tolerance policy” for illegal crossings at the Southern Border. President Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he is issuing an executive order that will keep immigrant children with their families.

“We’re going to keep families together but we still have to maintain toughness or our country will be overrun by people, by crime, by all of the things that we don’t stand for and that we don’t want,” Trump said, according to NPR.
