Former Navy Seal Turns Tables on “SNL” Comic Who Mocked His Eye Patch

One week after Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson mocked the appearance of former Navy Seal—and now newly elected Congressman—Dan Crenshaw, the latter got his payback on the show. Davidson, reacting to near universal condemnation of his remarks, appeared on “Weekend Update” segment to acknowledge his poor choice of words about Crenshaw, who lost an eye to an IED blast during his third combat tour in Afghanistan. Crenshaw then appeared alongside Davidson to accept his apology—and give Davidson a good-natured taste of his own medicine.

“Pete looks like if the meth from Breaking Bad was a person,” Crenshaw joked. “Pete looks like a troll doll with a tapeworm. … Pete looks like Martin Short in The Santa Clause 3. By the way, one of these two is actually good on ‘SNL.’”

But after delivering his zingers, Crenshaw pivoted to find common ground between himself and Davidson and all Americans of differing ideologies. Noting that it was now Veterans Day, Crenshaw said: “We can remember what brings us together as a country and still see the good in each other.” And he invoked that ideal of shared sacrifice that transcends politics, while honoring  Davidson’s own father, a NYC firefighter who was killed on 9/11, saying, we are “not separated by some imaginary barrier between civilians and veterans, but connected together as grateful, fellow Americans. We’ll never forget the sacrifices made by veterans past and present, and never forget those we lost on 9/11—heroes like Pete’s father.”
