Holy plot twists, Batman! Warner Bros. is taking advantage of director James Gunn’s ugly departure from Marvel Studios by hiring the filmmaker to write the script for Suicide Squad 2, The Wrap is reporting.

Bringing in Gunn would give the studio’s slate of DC Comics superhero films a much needed jolt given his critical and box office success on the two Guardians of the Galaxy films for arch-nemesis Marvel Studios.

But Gunn comes with some baggage: Disney fired Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on July 20 after alt-right critics ferreted out offensive tweets in which the director hand joked about pedophilia and rape years earlier.

Marvel was forced to pull the movie from its schedule entirely, leaving the franchise in limbo, after the cast headlined by Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista lashed out over their director’s firing.

Gunn is also in consideration to direct the sequel to the 2016 movie about super villains forced to work for the U.S. government, according to the report.
