Elon Musk participated in a wide-ranging interview for the Joe Rogan Experience podcast broadcast live Thursday night on YouTube. The two men drank whiskey and smoked weed — the interview took place in California, where marijuana is legal for recreational use.

Musk told Rogan that he has a design for an electric airplane, which he thinks would be better than current planes because it would be capable of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) and supersonic flight at high altitudes.

”I’ve thought about this quite a lot, quite a lot,” Musk said of the electric jet design, according to The Verge. “The trick is that you have to transition to level flight. The thing you’d use for vertical takeoff and landing is not suitable for high speed flight.” Musk also gave broad details about how the plane would be powered.

Musk admitted that an electric plane is not a priority at this time however.

“Electric cars are important, solar energy is important, stationary storage of energy is important,” said Musk, according to The Verge. “These things are much more important than creating electric supersonic VTOL.”

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO went on to become visibly upset as he described human’s addiction to fossil fuels, calling it “the dumbest experiment in human history.”

“So we’re f—ed?” asked Rogan later, according to The Verge. “No we’re not f—ed,” responded Musk. “But the momentum to sustainable energy is too slow.”
