Donald Glover is America’s greatest renaissance man. Esquire has published a profile of Glover as he gears up for a typically busy year that will include the second season of his beloved show Atlanta as well as his much-anticipated performance as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. There’s also his music career as Childish Gambino, which has earned multiple Grammy-nominations and one of the biggest hits of 2016-17 in “Redbone.” “Part of the reason I do what I do is because I’m the only one who can do it,” Glover told Esquire. Playing Lando Calrissian, the only black character in the original Star Wars trilogy has been especially meaningful for Glover. His father bought him a Lando action figure when he was a kid, and during filming for Solo, Glover was able to bring his father to set to watch his son play the character.
