Rumors of Cory Booker entering the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president when the time comes keep growing. The Daily Intelligencer spent time with Booker and published a longread profile, in which the New Jersey Senator hints at his ambitions.

“Of course the presidency will be something I consider. It would be irresponsible not to,” Booker told The Daily Intelligencer. Booker was reportedly among the final list of three people the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign considered for a running mate before settling on Tim Kaine.

The 2020 race for the Democratic campaign figures to be a hotly contested one with plenty of candidates. “I think there’s going to be lots and lots of people running. But I don’t think it actually has to be ugly,” Booker said. He also drew compliments in the profile from Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Kamala Harris, who have both been rumored as potential 2020 nominees as well.
