Her new album of Abba covers, called “Dancing Queen” will be released Sept. 28. It was inspired by her return to the big screen in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and precedes the debut of The Cher Show, writes The New York Times, which will be a Broadway musical about her life. The star sat down with The New York Times to give a no-holds-barred take on her career. She talks about how she never feels confident and how she has “never been a huge Cher fan.” But she always knew what she wanted to do.

“I set out to be famous! I set out to be Cinderella. I saw two movies when I was a kid: Dumbo and Cinderella. And on the way home, I started singing the songs in the car. My mother punched my dad and said: ‘Listen! She’s singing songs from the movie.’ I’d never heard them before. I didn’t understand the reality. I just knew I wanted to be on that screen,” she said, according to The Times.
