Twitter has suspended Alex Jones for a week, reports The New York Times, after the far-right conspiracy theorist tweeted a link to a video calling for supporters to get their “battle rifles” ready against media and others. Twitter said this is a violation of the company’s rules against inciting violence. Jones is prevented from tweeting or retweeting from his personal account for seven days, though he will be allowed to browse Twitter. Infowars, the website founded by Jones, is not affected by the ban.

Twitter was the sole holdout among major tech companies in not taking down content from Jones. Apple removed videos and content by Jones and Infowars because of hate speech, and he was removed from Facebook, YouTube and Spotify. Jones has called the Sandy Hook shooting a hoax conducted by crisis actors and he is being sued by victim’s families.

Twitter’s chief executive, Jack Dorsey, has consistently upheld the company’s decision to keep Jones’s account online, because Dorsey does not think Jones or Infowars has violated Twitter’s rules.
