Alec Baldwin Drops Out of ‘Joker’ Movie

The Emmy-winning actor had been set to play Batman's father.

Alec Baldwin will no longer be a part of Jokerthe film project about the DC villain starring Joaquin Phoenix. Baldwin told USA Today, “I am no longer part of that movie.” On Monday, the news broke that Baldwin was in talks to play Thomas Wayne in Todd Phillips’ Joker stand-alone movie, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the comic books, Thomas Wayne is a physician, philanthropist and father to Bruce Wayne (the future Batman). The Joker script does depart from the comics, however, and sources tell THR that the script calls for Thomas Wayne to be a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.

Baldwin cited “scheduling issues” as the main reason for dropping out, but he also tweeted about the new take on Wayne.

Phoenix is playing the Joker, and the movie also includes Robert De Niro, Deadpool 2 breakout star Zazie Beetz and GLOW actor Marc Maron.
