Anthony Bourdain has been the envy of every culinary traveler since the early aughts, first with Food Network (A Cook’s Tour), then with Travel Channel (No Reservations, The Layover), and now with CNN (Parts Unknown).

But many of his TV acolytes might not realize that Bourdain is also a talented author, penning a number of nonfiction and fiction books. In fact, Bourdain published a pair of comic books for DC in 2012 (Get Jiro!) and 2015 (Get Jiro: Blood and Sushi), respectively.

Now, he’s taking another stab at short-form fiction, hooking up with one of the comic book world’s most talented publishers, Karen Berger, who previously launched DC imprint Vertigo, which has produced all-star titles like The Sandman and Preacher; and has now landed at Dark Horse Comics.

There, Berger’s launched a new imprint, Berger Books, which will publish Bourdain’s Hungry Ghosts.

According to Vulture, it will be four issues in length, with each featuring some standalone stories per book.

Explains Vulture: “The series will be a riff on the Japanese Edo-period game 100 Candles, in which samurai would try to one-up each other with stories to freak each other out. Here, the tellers won’t be samurai; they’ll be chefs from around the world, and their stories will be united by their focus on food.”

Hungry Ghosts hits comic stores on January 31, 2018.
