In 1967, British pop artist Peter Blake worked with his then-wife Jann Haworth and Paul McCartney to create the cover for the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album.

Two decades later, Blake lent his talents to another classic – a 60-year-old bottle of The Macallan.

Distilled in 1926 and bottled in 1986, 12 limited-release bottles of The Macallan featuring labels drawn by Blake were released in tandem with another 12 limited-edition bottles emblazoned with labels drawn by pop artist Valerio Adami.

Originally offered as gifts to the brand’s most valued customers, a few of the bottles of the 60-year-old spirit found their way to the auction block in the late ’80s but haven’t been seen since, according to Scotchwhisky.com.

That will change on May 18 when one of Adami’s bottles and one of Blake’s will cross the block at the Bonhams Rare and Fine Wine and Whisky Sale in Hong Kong. The bottles will be sold separately and each one is estimated to fetch anywhere from $462,000 – $595,000.

“These bottles are exceptionally rare,” said Bonhams head of fine wine and whisky Daniel Lam. “The exceptional caliber of the whisky, combined with the wonderful artwork from two towering figures of 20th-century Pop Art represents a unique marriage of excellence. The sale is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for collectors to acquire the Holy Grail of Macallan.”
